Laryngoceles arise as a result of a herniation of the saccule of the laryngeal ventricle of Morgagni secondary to a prolonged increase in intraglottic pressure. A laryngeal saccule is a small diverticulum arising out of the laryngeal ventricle. Direct laryngoscopy detected a submucosal bulge in the left aryepiglottic fold that extended into the laryngeal ventricle (figure 1). |
