left-handedness

Using the left hand more skilfully and in preference to the right hand for most actions. It occurs in about 9% of the population, predominantly males. It is caused by dominance of the right side of the brain.

Studies of twins suggest that there are genetic factors involved, but the precise causes for left-handedness (as for the predominant right-handedness) have remained elusive.
