hellebore

Poisonous European herbaceous plant belonging to the buttercup family. The stinking hellebore (H. foetidus) has greenish flowers early in the spring. (Genus Helleborus, family Ranunculaceae.)

The white, or false, hellebore (Veratrum viride) of North America is a poisonous member of the lily family (Liliaceae).

I especially like helleborus orientalis too, Although they flower a little later, the Lenten roses, in pink, white and red, are hardier and the flowers more prolific.
