less developed country

Any country late in developing an industrial base, and dependent on cash crops and unprocessed minerals; part of the developing world. The terms ‘less developed’, ‘least developed’, and ‘developing’ imply that industrial development is desirable or inevitable.

The Group of 77 was established in 1964 to pressure industrialized countries into giving greater aid to less developed countries.
