life sciences

Scientific study of the living world as a whole, a new synthesis of several traditional scientific disciplines including biology, zoology, and botany, and newer, more specialized areas of study such as biophysics and sociobiology.

This approach has led to many new ideas and discoveries as well as to an emphasis on ecology, the study of living organisms in their natural environments.
