The banded linsang (a mammal of the civet family) has a boldly marked coat that breaks up its body outline. It lives in forested regions of SE Asia and is active at night, hunting small mammals, birds, and insects.
| Nocturnal, tree-dwelling, carnivorous mammal of the civet family, about 75 cm/2.5 ft long. The African linsang (Poiana richardsoni) is a long, low, and lithe spotted animal about 33 cm/1.1 ft long with a 38 cm/1.25 ft tail. The two species of oriental linsang (genus Prionodon), found in Asia, are slightly larger. (Family Viverridae.) |
