The Bidford-on-Avon angler was float-fishing on the Great Ouse when the massive 5lb 6oz perch - the biggest taken from any English river other than the Thames - snaffled his lobworm hook bait.
The biggest UK worm is the lobworm, which lives in burrows deep beneath the surface and emerges mainly at night to drag down leaves and other organic material to digest in its burrow.
Bread fished with feeder tactics is likely to be the best bait for chub, which like big baits, though cheese, meat and lobworms will always attract a greedy chub.
