local option

Right granted by a government to the electors of each particular area to decide whether the sale of intoxicants shall be permitted. Such a system has been tried in certain states of the USA, in certain Canadian provinces, and in Norway and Sweden.

The Eastern Synod Council of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Canada (ELCIC) has accepted "with deep regret" the ruling by its National Church Council that its synod's approval of a resolution allowing a local option on the blessing of same-sex unions cannot be implemented because it went "beyond its constitutional authority" in doing so.
Companies now can draw from similar programs at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, and California State University, Long Beach, but have no local option for recruiting.
Also unique among Texas school districts, the district maintains a 20% local option homestead exemption.
