lovebird

Any of a group of birds belonging to the parrot family, found in Africa south of the Sahara. They take their name from the affection the male displays towards the female. Lovebirds are generally just larger than sparrows (about 16 cm/6 in) and coloured green with red, yellow, and black markings on the head. (Genus Agapornis, family Psittacidae, order Psittaciformes.)
