lumpsucker

Marine bony fish so called from the frequent presence of a sucking disc formed from the united ventral fins. It is also distinguished by an absence of scales and the presence of spined plates along its side. Lumpsuckers feed mainly on small crustaceans and jellyfish.

Classification

The lumpsuckers belong to the genus Cyclopterus, family Cyclopteridae, order Scorpaeniformes, class Osteichthyes.
