lyricism

In the arts, the expressive or sensual qualities of a work. For instance, lyric poetry expresses the writer's thoughts and feelings. In painting, lyrical abstraction (abstraction lyrique) refers to a French style of abstract art of the 1940s and 1950s that was more spontaneous and expressive than geometrical abstraction (see Tachisme).
