In many cactus flowers the multilobed stigma (which receives the pollen grains) protrudes well up above the anthers (which produce the pollen grains). In most yellow-flowered species of Notocactus, such as this N. mammulosus, the stigma is red.

In a flower, the surface at the tip of a carpel that receives the pollen. It often has short outgrowths, flaps, or hairs to trap pollen and may produce a sticky secretion to which the grains adhere.
