marabou

African stork, about 120 cm/4 ft tall, with a bald head, long heavy bill, black back and wings and white underparts, and an inflatable throat pouch. It eats snakes, lizards, insects, and carrion. The bald head avoids blood clogging the plumage when the stork feeds on carcasses left by predators such as lions. (Species Leptoptilos crumeniferus, family Ciconiidae, order Ciconiiformes.)
