marbling

Decoration technique for fabric. Marbling relies on the fact that oil and water do not mix. Oil-based fabric paints are dropped on to the surface of a basin or tray of water. The paint is gently stirred until the desired decorative effect is achieved, then fabric is gently laid on top. When the fabric is lifted, the paint adheres to its surface, and gives a marble-like effect.
