marmite

British savoury spread made from yeast extract. It is a rich source of B vitamins and folic acid.

It was first manufactured in 1902 in Burton-on-Trent, England, where it is still made today. It was given to British troops in World War I to supplement their diet and has since been used in World War II, the Falklands War, the Gulf War, and in Bosnia.
