mechanical advantageIn physics, the ratio by which the load moved by a machine is greater than the effort applied to that machine. In equation terms: MA = load/effort. The exact value of a working machine's MA is always less than its theoretical value because there will always be some frictional resistance that increases the effort necessary to do the work.
