mechanistic organization

    0.08 sec.

mechanistic organization

Organization characterized by a high degree of job specialization, clearly demarcated vertical hierarchies, and centralized decision-making. The term was coined by English sociologist Tom Burns and psychologist G M Stalker. This type of organization can be contrasted with an organic organization, one that has low job specialization, horizontal communication channels, and decentralization of decision-making processes with corresponding empowerment of employees.
