melodic minor scale  The melodic minor scale on E. | In music, one of the minor scales where the sixth and seventh notes are raised by a semitone when the scale is played ascending, and lowered (returned to their original positions) when played descending. It is so called because its notes are likely to be used when creating melodies as it is much easier to sing than the harmonic minor scale. |
