Metis

In Greek mythology, the goddess of wisdom, daughter of Oceanus and Tethys.

Another legend makes her the first wife of Zeus, who, fearing she might bear a child more powerful than himself, devoured her in the first month of her pregnancy. Later Athena sprang fully grown from his head.
