mezuzah
In Judaism, a small box containing a parchment scroll inscribed with a prayer, the Shema from Deuteronomy (6:4–9; 11:13–21), which is found in the upper third of the right doorpost of every home and every room in a Jewish house, except the bathroom.
Jews are commanded by the Shema to keep the mezuzah ‘as a sign upon the doorposts of your house’, so that they are reminded of their commitment to God and God's commandments as they move around the home. The mezuzah is touched on entering and leaving the home.
