micropyle

In flowering plants, a small hole towards one end of the ovule. At pollination the pollen tube growing down from the stigma eventually passes through this pore. The male gamete is contained within the tube and is able to travel to the egg in the interior of the ovule. Fertilization can then take place, with subsequent seed formation and dispersal.
