molecular formula

In chemistry, formula indicating the actual number of atoms of each element present in a single molecule of a chemical compound. For example, the molecular formula of carbon dioxide is CO2, indicating that one molecule of carbon dioxide is made up of one atom of carbon and two atoms of oxygen. This is determined by two pieces of information: the empirical formula and the relative molecular mass, which is determined experimentally.
