molybdenite

Molybdenum sulphide, MoS2, the chief ore mineral of molybdenum. It possesses a hexagonal crystal structure similar to graphite, has a blue metallic lustre, and is very soft (1–1.5 on the Mohs scale).

The largest source of molybdenite is a deposit in Colorado.
