monocarpic

Describing plants that flower and produce fruit only once during their life cycle, after which they die. Most annual plants and biennial plants are monocarpic, but there are also a small number of monocarpic perennial plants that flower just once, sometimes after as long as 90 years, dying shortly afterwards, for example, century plant Agave and some species of bamboo Bambusa. The general biological term related to organisms that reproduce only once during their lifetime is semelparity.
