monoecious

Having separate male and female flowers on the same plant. Maize Zea mays, for example, has a tassel of male flowers at the top of the stalk and a group of female flowers (on the ear, or cob) lower down. Monoecism is a way of avoiding self-fertilization.

Dioecious plants have male and female flowers on separate plants.
