In music, the succession of notes of different pitch. The word is used only with an adjectival qualification: conjunct motion, a single part moving by steps of adjoining notes; contrary motion, two or more parts moving together in different directions; disjunct motion, a single part moving by larger than stepwise intervals; oblique motion, one part moving when another stands still; and similar motion, two or more parts moving together in the same direction.
