mudflow

Downhill movement (mass movement) of muddy sediment containing a large proportion of water. Mudflows can be fast and destructive: in 1966 coal waste saturated with water engulfed a school in Aberfan, South Wales, killing 116 children. A lahar is a form of mudflow associated with volcanic activity.
