bodybuilding

The development of a muscular body as a sport. Unlike other sports, in which training is a means to better performance at some other activity, in bodybuilding the aim is to look more impressive physically. Competitive bodybuilding developed in the 1920s, with Charles Atlas being the first bodybuilder to achieve international public acclaim.

More recent famous bodybuilders include Arnold Schwarzenegger and Lou Ferrigno, who played the Incredible Hulk in the films and television series of that name.
