musette

Small French bagpipes; also a dance movement and character piece, imitating the music of a bagpipe, with its drone accompaniment. Musette sections are often found in classical suites, as the trio to a gavotte. A modern ‘musette’ is found in Schoenberg's Suite for Piano (1921).
