musical saw

Musical instrument made from a hand saw. The handle is clasped between the knees with the top of the blade held in one hand so that it forms an S curve. A cello bow is played with the other hand across the back edge of the blade to produce an eerie wailing sound. The pitch is altered by varying the curvature of the blade. Composers include George Crumb.
