musique mesurée

Method of setting words to music cultivated in 16th-century France by Jean Antoine de Baïf, Claude Le Jeune, Jacques Mauduit, and others. The metrical rhythm of the words was based on classical scansion and the musical rhythm followed this exactly, long syllables being set to long notes, and short syllables to short notes.
