myiasis

In medicine, infestation of the tissue of living animals by maggots. In some cases the larvae may be able to penetrate unbroken skin, in others some form of wound is required as a means of entry. Botflies and screw-worms live on cattle, as well as more rarely attacking humans.

The African tumbu fly can penetrate unbroken skin, causing very painful bites, and the lesions can be serious in a heavy infestation.
