futureUndertaking to buy a fixed amount of a commodity or financial asset at a fixed date in the future and at a fixed price. Individuals and organizations use futures to protect themselves, hedging, against potential adverse movements in price. Speculators also trade in futures in an attempt to profit from those movements. Price movements of futures are expressed in ticks, the smallest unit of quotation. Futures are traded on futures exchanges (see futures trading). |
