numbat

Australian marsupial anteater. It is brown with white stripes on the back and has a long tubular tongue to gather termites and ants. The body is about 25 cm/10 in long, and the tongue can be extended 10 cm/4 in. It is different from other marsupials in that it has no pouch. (Species Myrmecobius fasciatus.)
