offline browsing

In computing, downloading and copying Web pages onto a computer so that they can be viewed without being connected to the Internet. By taking advantage of off-peak hours, when telephone charges are low and the network responds faster, offline browsing is a thrifty way of using the World Wide Web.

Although useful in saving time and money for the person who copies the Web pages, offline browsing is considered antisocial by some who argue that by automatically demanding large numbers of pages from a server in quick succession places a large strain on the server, to the detriment of other browsers. Some web servers are set up to deny access to offline browser programs.
