oil refinery

Industrial complex where crude oil is processed into different products using the technique of fractional distillation. The light volatile parts of the oil form petroleum, while the heavier parts make bitumen and petrochemicals. Oil refineries are often located at deep-water ports or near their industrial markets. They need flat land and water for cooling.
