score

Complete copy of a piece of music in manuscript or printed form. A full score shows all the lines of music for each instrument playing in a composition. The music is arranged on the page according to the four sections of the orchestra: woodwind, brass, percussion, and strings. It is usually printed on large paper for easy reading, such as for a conductor's score. A short score is a reduced or condensed version of a piece of music, such as a full score, into a few staves of music (usually two). It also refers to a composer's ‘sketch’, which contains the outlines of the instrumentation he will expand later. A piano score is a reduction of an orchestral or vocal score to two staves of music to be played on the piano. A miniature or study score is a full score reduced to notebook size.
