open question

Question that does not limit the response to a specific answer. Open questions are intended to elicit a range of responses to gauge the opinion of the person answering the questions. In a questionnaire these would be the questions without tick boxes or multiple choices. In a job interview they might include questions such as asking a candidate why they believe they are suitable for the position.
