optical instrument

Instrument that makes use of one or more lenses or mirrors, or of a combination of these, in order to change the path of light rays and produce an image. Optical instruments such as magnifying glasses, microscopes, and telescopes are used to provide a clear, magnified image of the very small or the very distant. Others, such as cameras, photographic enlargers, and film projectors may be used to store or reproduce images.
