archil

Violet dye which is obtained from several species of lichens, notably from Roccella tinctoria. As materials dyed solely with it fade readily in the sunlight, another dye is usually employed at first and archil is used to give added brilliance.

For this study, 3 new histologic sections (6 [micro]m thick) were obtained from each slide and stained with hematoxylin-eosin, Masson trichrome, or orcein (for demonstration of elastic fibers).
The onion root tips were fixed and lactic-acetic orcein squashes on microscope slides were made for cytogenetic study.
