Cordaitales
| Order of Palaeozoic gymnosperm plants with straplike leaves, ancestors of the modern true conifers. They were abundant as large trees in Coal Measure and late Carboniferous forests. Cordaites is the best-known genus; it grew in mangrove swamps. |
