Wild marjoram is a perennial growing up to 70 cm/2 ft 4 in high. When grown in warmer countries it has a stronger flavour, and is dried and sold as the herb oregano. Sweet marjoram is also a popular herb.

Any of several perennial herbs belonging to the mint family, especially the aromatic O. vulgare, also known as wild marjoram. It is native to Mediterranean countries and western Asia and naturalized in the Americas. Oregano is extensively used to season Mediterranean cooking. (Genus Origanum, family Labiatae.)
