oxalic acid

White, poisonous solid, soluble in water, alcohol, and ether. Oxalic acid is found in rhubarb leaves, and its salts (oxalates) occur in wood sorrel (genus Oxalis, family Oxalidaceae) and other plants. It also occurs naturally in human body cells. It is used in the leather and textile industries, in dyeing and bleaching, ink manufacture, metal polishes, and for removing rust and ink stains.
