oxyfuel

    0.01 sec.

oxyfuel

1) fuel enriched with oxygen to decrease carbon monoxide (CO) emissions. Oxygen is added in the form of chemicals such as methyl tertiary butyl ether (MTBE) and ethanol.

Cars produce CO when there is insufficient oxygen present to convert all the carbon in the petrol to CO2. This occurs mostly at low temperatures, such as during the first five minutes of starting the engine and in cold weather. CO emissions are reduced by the addition of oxygen-rich chemicals. The use of oxyfuels in winter is compulsory in certain US cities. There are fears, however, that MTBE can cause health problems, including nausea, headaches, and skin rashes.

2) Oxyfuel welding uses an intensely hot flame generated by mixing fuel, often acetylene, and oxygen under pressure.

Oxyfuel When coal, oil or natural gas is burned in normal air, the amount of CO2 produced is between 3-15% of the waste gases, depending on the conditions.
