panchromaticism| In music, extreme chromaticism, in which all twelve tones are used equally frequently. Such music might be described as ‘one degree less than atonal’, that is, very chromatic but still with some sense of a tonic. The term is associated particularly with Arnold Schoenberg's ultra-chromatic, but pre-serial, compositions. |
