paradisefish

Small freshwater fish found in ditches and paddy fields in Asia.

As in the related fighting fish (Betta), the males, when in breeding colours, are very pugnacious.

Classification

The paradisefish Macropodus opercularis is in the family Anabantidae, order Perciformes, class Osteichthyes.
