parrot fish

Member of a family of marine bony fish. The teeth of this group have fused to form extremely hard beaks that are able to bite off pieces of coral; these, with seaweed and molluscs, form the principal food. The fish are all brilliantly coloured, and some may grow up to 1 m/3.3 ft in length.

Classification

Parrot fish comprise the family Scaridae, order Perciformes, class Osteichthyes.
