passive matrix display

In computing, liquid crystal display (LCD) produced by passing a current between an array of electrodes set between glass plates. Passive matrix screens lack the transistors that enhance the performance of active matrix LCDs, which makes them relatively inexpensive, but lacking in contrast and slow to react.

Active Matrix display looks brighter and sharper than passive matrix display of similar size and has better response time.
Passive matrix displays are far more limited than active displays, currently viable only for displays about2 inches in diagonal; whereas active matrix OLEDs can be used in displays up to 70 inches in diagonal.
Measurements on small passive matrix displays that incorporated the TMA solution, demonstrated at least a 50% reduction in power consumption or exhibited double the display luminescence at the same power consumption.
