patch test

In medicine, the placing of small amounts of possible allergens on to the skin, usually on the arm or back, to identify the cause of an allergic reaction. A red flare and swelling will appear in the area of application if the individual is allergic to that substance. Patch tests can achieve very quick results, but in some cases the patch must remain in place for several days.
