pennyroyal

European perennial plant belonging to the mint family, with oblong leaves and clusters or whorls of purplish flowers growing around the stem at intervals. It is found in wet places on sandy soil. (Mentha pulegium, family Labiatae.)

A similar North American mint (Hedeoma pulegioides) that yields an aromatic oil is also called pennyroyal.
